 FAQs

  • A women’s physiotherapy session at Sunny Natal is tailored to your specific needs and health goals. Your session begins with a private consultation to discuss any symptoms or concerns, such as pelvic pain, incontinence, or postnatal recovery. Depending on your needs, the assessment may include an ultrasound to check pelvic floor function. You’ll receive personalised exercises, hands-on techniques, and guidance on posture and lifestyle adjustments to support improved pelvic health. Each session is designed to help you achieve lasting comfort, strength, and confidence in your body.

  • No, in Australia, physiotherapists, including women’s health physios, are first-contact practitioners, so you don’t need a referral. However, if your doctor or specialist has given you one, feel free to bring it along to your appointment. It can provide helpful background information for your physiotherapist.

  • During your first consultation, your physiotherapist will take time to thoroughly discuss your medical history and symptoms. If you're coming in for pelvic floor physio, expect detailed questions about your pelvic health, pregnancy, or post-natal recovery. If an internal examination is needed, your physiotherapist will explain why and ensure you are comfortable before proceeding.

  • Please bring the following:

    • Any relevant medical reports or previous documentation related to your condition.

Having these on hand helps your women’s health physio get a complete picture of your health and ensures an effective treatment plan.

  • Yes, you are welcome to bring your baby to your appointment! We understand how challenging it can be to find time for yourself with a little one in tow, so we strive to accommodate your needs.

  • Our women’s health physios are trained in internal assessments and treatments, but this will only be done with your consent. During your session, your therapist will discuss if an internal assessment is recommended for your specific condition. Alternatively, we also use real-time ultrasound to assess pelvic floor function externally.

  • Yes, if you have private health insurance with extras cover that includes physiotherapy, you can claim your sessions. Be sure to check your policy for any limits or restrictions on physiotherapy services.

  • Yes, we accept Medicare referrals under a GP Management Plan or Team Care Arrangement for allied health services. If you're referred by your GP, you’ll need to pay the full fee on the day, but we can process your Medicare claim in the clinic. Note that Medicare only covers part of the fee, and there will be a gap payment. We are not a bulk-billing clinic.

  • Women’s physiotherapy at Sunny Natal is beneficial for anyone dealing with pelvic floor issues, incontinence, pelvic pain, or recovery from pregnancy and childbirth. It’s also ideal for women experiencing discomfort from conditions like prolapse, menopause-related changes, or other pelvic health concerns. This therapy can help improve core strength, relieve pain, and provide effective management strategies for a healthier, more comfortable lifestyle at any stage of life.
